It started construction on December 30, 2007 in the Pudong World Expo Park. The building features a flying saucer shape with a total construction area of 80000 square meters. It won the 2010-2011 China Construction Engineering Luban Award. As a comprehensive performing arts venue, it undertakes large-scale performance activities during the World Expo and has planned a sustainable development plan to transform into a new cultural and entertainment landmark after the Expo.
Construction background
As the core venue of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the Shanghai World Expo Performing Arts Center officially started construction on December 30, 2007. It was one of the award-winning projects of the 2010-2011 China Construction Engineering Luban Award (National Quality Project) and was constructed by Shanghai Fourth Construction Co., Ltd. with the aim of creating world-class modern performing arts facilities.
