Beijing Subway Line 5 is the fifth line tobe opened in Beijing, China. It is the first rapid transit line in Beijing'surban rail transit network to traverse the city center and connect the northernand southern suburbs. The entire line began trial operations on October 7,2007, and its signature color is purple-red.
According to the Beijing Subway officialwebsite as of October 2020, Beijing Subway Line 5 runs north-south, locatedeast of the city's central axis, connecting the four districts of Fengtai,Dongcheng, Chaoyang, and Changping.
As of July 2024, Beijing Subway Line 5spans a total length of 27.5 kilometers, including 21.5 kilometers ofunderground sections, 1 kilometer of ground-level sections, and 5.5 kilometersof elevated sections. The line starts at Songzhuang Station in Fengtai Districtto the south and ends at Tiantongyuan North Station in Changping District tothe north, with a total of 23 stations, including 16 underground stations, 1ground-level station, and 6 elevated stations, using 6-car B-type trains.
Beijing Subway Line 5 starts at theSongzhuang Transportation Hub in Fengtai District and runs northward alongShiliuzhuang Road, Puhuangyu Road, Tiantan East Road, Chongwenmenwai Avenue,Dongdan North Avenue, Dongsi Avenue, Yonghegong Avenue, Heping West Street,Huixin West Street, Beiyuan Road, and Lituo Road, with its terminus atTiantongyuan North in the Taipingzhuang area at the northern end.
